So what’s all this, then? Is that a grown man there, astride some kid’s rocking horse? So curious!
Wait! Is that some adult-size kid’s rocking horse? For some really big kid? Or some adult who’s just a kid at heart? Or something much weirder than that? Curiouser and curiouser!
And what about all those truly kid-size equine toys spread all around, there? And where is this place? Wonderland? Never never? Fantasy? Lala?
And just look at the man’s deranged expression! What is he thinking? What imaginings could be coursing through that brain of his in this moment? Are they truly childlike? Or just bizarre? Is he finding joy? Serenity? A window to another world or universe? If he’s reliving his childhood, what must that have been like?
Is he hoping to somehow get back atop that beloved pony of his youth? The one he is riding is the most humble of all the ponies present! Does he wish he was a better fit for one of those other classy steeds? And what about that tiger? And that llama? Golly jeezus what’s all that about!
And what about that cherished pony in your distant past? What was its name? How fantastic did it look? And gosh and golly do you see it pictured here? Is your heart suddenly filled with a desire to get back there in that saddle, when life was simple and innocent and you rode (or rocked) the range – whatever range your child-mind invented – in peace and contentment? They say you can’t go home again – d’ya think that’s true?
Maybe the grown man on that grown-man-sized horsey is having some mature adult-themed reverie, like OLD MAN ON WOODEN WONDER WINS BELMONT STAKES BY TWENTY LENGTHS, SIGNS HOLLYWOOD CONTRACT FOR MILLIONS, or something like that. Adults just don’t think like kids, for the most part, and maybe that’s too bad.
You ever heard of Walter Mitty? Maybe this is like that
Or maybe this man really belongs back on his rocker on the front porch of the Old Folks Home, where more acceptable contentment is to be found. Or maybe he’s just off his and he’s better off for that.
They say old age can be tough sometimes and maybe that’s true, and escaping that however you can whenever you can might be a good thing, and who are we to blame a guy for giving it his best shot? He looks like a winner of some kind, don’t you think? So does the horse
